In the hilly area of Colpernaco or Colpernacolo as it was named two centuries ago, a cool knoll to the east of the city of Foligno not far from the village of Uppello and the Sassovivo Abbey, which in the Middle Ages was one of the most powerful in central Italy, is the ancient Villa Colpernaco<\/strong>, a residence that embodies the essence of the passage of the centuries through the significant historical stratifications that give it an unusual charm. Villa Colpernaco is mentioned in the Gregorian Land Registry<\/strong>, a cartography of the papal provinces promoted by Pope Pius VII in 1816 and started by Pope Gregory XVI in 1835. The house, passed from the Petropuoli family to the Palestrini between 1835 and 1851, flows into the properties of Gino Recchi in 1934 and, during the Second World War, it became the headquarters of the highest ranks of the English Army. The Recchi ceded it in 1987 to the Chiavellati family, descendants of Luigi, a valiant doctor who died during the fighting of the Italian army in Central Africa in 1936 and was awarded the Gold Medal The sides of the hills from which we arrived are covered with olive trees, whose antiquity demonstrates the excellence of the climate: we have not seen anywhere else the trees of this species so old, and at the same time so vigorous. Most are dismemberments of ancient stems that have formed new trees that adhere to the primitive root.<\/em>
